In 1969, Aldrin was selected as the Lunar Module Pilot for the Apollo 11 mission. He joined mission commander Neil Armstrong and Command Module Pilot Michael Collins to make history as the first humans to land on the moon.
On July 19, 1969, the Apollo 11 spacecraft entered lunar orbit. The next day, Armstrong and Aldrin boarded the Lunar Module Eagle and descended to the surface of the moon.
