How to Make Homemade Salisbury Steak
Salisbury steak is a classic comfort food that is surprisingly easy to make at home. This recipe will guide you through the steps to create tender and flavorful Salisbury steak that will satisfy your cravings.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, egg, onion, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
- Form the meat mixture into 6-8 patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add a little oil or butter to prevent sticking.
- Place the patties in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
- Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
- Make the gravy by adding 1 cup of beef broth to the skillet. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, or until thickened.
- Return the patties to the skillet and spoon the gravy over them.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side dishes.
Tips:
- For a richer flavor, use ground chuck instead of lean ground beef.
- If you don’t have bread crumbs, you can use rolled oats or cracker crumbs instead.
- To make the gravy ahead of time, simply prepare it according to the recipe and store it in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, reheat the gravy and add it to the Salisbury steak patties.
