Getting to Arnside Knott

Arnside Knott is a stunning viewpoint overlooking the Kent Estuary in the Lake District National Park. It’s a popular destination for walkers, cyclists, and drivers, and there are a number of different ways to get there.

Walking

If you’re feeling energetic, you can walk to Arnside Knott from the village of Arnside. The walk takes about an hour and a half, and it’s a great way to enjoy the scenery along the way.

Walking route:

  • Start from the Arnside railway station car park.
  • Head west along Station Road.
  • Turn left onto Sandside Road.
  • Follow Sandside Road for about half a mile, until you reach a footpath on your right.
  • Take the footpath and follow it uphill.
  • The footpath will eventually lead you to Arnside Knott.

Cycling

Arnside Knott is also a popular destination for cyclists. The cycling route from Arnside to Arnside Knott is about 5 miles long, and it takes about an hour to complete.

Cycling route:

  • Start from the Arnside railway station car park.
  • Head west along Station Road.
  • Turn left onto Sandside Road.
  • Follow Sandside Road for about half a mile, until you reach a footpath on your right.
  • Take the footpath and follow it uphill.
  • The footpath will eventually lead you to Arnside Knott.

Driving

If you’re driving to Arnside Knott, there are a few different parking options available.

  • There is a small car park at the bottom of the hill, which is free to use.
  • There is also a larger car park at the top of the hill, which costs £2 per day.
  • If both car parks are full, you can park in the village of Arnside and walk up to Arnside Knott.

Public transport

Arnside is served by the Windermere branch line, which runs between Oxenholme Lake District and Windermere. From Arnside railway station, you can either walk or cycle up to Arnside Knott, or you can take the 505 bus from the station to the top of the hill.

Bus route:

  • Take the 505 bus from Arnside railway station to the top of the hill.
  • The bus stop is located on Arnside Road, opposite the Arnside Hotel.
