How to Take Your Driver’s Test in Arizona

Before You Start

Be at least 16 years old and have held a learner’s permit for at least six months.
Gather the required documents, including your learner’s permit, proof of identity, and proof of insurance.
Schedule an appointment online or by phone at your local Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) office.
Practice driving with a licensed driver and complete the required number of supervised driving hours.

The Day of the Test

Arrive at the MVD office on time and bring the required documents. You will be asked to sign a form stating that you have completed the required practice hours and that you understand the rules of the road.

The test consists of two parts: a written exam and a road test.

Written Exam

The written exam has 30 multiple-choice questions about traffic laws, road signs, and driving safety.
You have 30 minutes to complete the exam and must answer at least 24 questions correctly to pass.
If you fail the written exam, you will need to wait 30 days before you can retake the test.

Road Test

The road test is a 15-minute drive with a MVD examiner.
The examiner will evaluate your driving skills, including your ability to obey traffic laws, control the vehicle, and make safe decisions.
If you fail the road test, you will need to wait 45 days before you can retake the test.
