Epithelia: Properties Shared by All Types

**Free Surface**

**Regeneration**

In addition to these shared properties, epithelia can be classified into different types based on their structure and function. The three main types of epithelia are:

* **Simple epithelia** are composed of a single layer of cells.
* **Stratified epithelia** are composed of multiple layers of cells.
* **Pseudostratified epithelia** are composed of a single layer of cells that appear to be stratified.
