How to Make Fried Pickles

Fried pickles are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or side dish. They’re perfect for parties, picnics, or just a snack. And the best part is, you can make them at home with just a few simple ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 jar (16 ounces) dill pickles
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Drain the pickles. Remove the pickles from the jar and drain them on paper towels.
  2. Prepare the buttermilk mixture. Combine the buttermilk, flour, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Whisk until smooth.
  3. Dip the pickles in the buttermilk mixture. Dip each pickle in the buttermilk mixture, turning to coat. Let the excess buttermilk drip off.
  4. Heat the oil. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully drop the pickles into the skillet.
  5. Fry the pickles. Fry the pickles for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they’re golden brown. Remove the pickles from the skillet and drain them on paper towels.

Tips

  • For extra crispy pickles, double-dip them in the buttermilk mixture before frying.
  • You can use any type of pickles you like, but dill pickles are the most common.
  • If you don’t have buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to 1 cup of milk.

Serve

Serve the fried pickles with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing, ketchup, or barbecue sauce.
