What Are The Stages Of Sanctification

What Are the Stages of Sanctification?

Sanctification is the process of being made holy. It is a lifelong process that begins when we are saved and continues until we are glorified in heaven. There are three main stages of sanctification:

Initial Sanctification

Initial sanctification occurs when we are first saved. At this point, we are cleansed from our sins and made new creatures in Christ. We are given a new nature that is holy and righteous. However, we still have a sinful nature that will continue to tempt us to sin.

Initial sanctification is a decisive work of God’s grace. It is not something that we can achieve on our own. It is a gift that is given to us by God when we repent of our sins and place our faith in Jesus Christ.

Progressive Sanctification

Progressive sanctification is the process of growing in holiness. It is a lifelong process that occurs as we cooperate with the Holy Spirit. As we grow in our knowledge of God, our love for Him, and our obedience to His Word, we become more and more like Him.

Progressive sanctification is not a sinless process. We will still sin from time to time. However, as we grow in holiness, we will sin less and less frequently. We will also become more and more resistant to temptation.

Final Sanctification

Final sanctification occurs when we are glorified in heaven. At this point, we will be completely free from sin and perfectly holy. We will be like God in every way.

Final sanctification is a future hope that we have as Christians. It is something that we can look forward to with great anticipation.

How Can We Grow in Sanctification?

There are many things that we can do to grow in sanctification. Some of these things include:

  • Reading the Bible
  • Praying regularly
  • Fellowshipping with other Christians
  • Serving others
  • Resisting temptation
  • Confessing our sins
  • Forgiving others
  • Living a holy life

Growing in sanctification is not easy. It is a challenging process that requires our ongoing commitment. However, it is a process that is worth pursuing. As we grow in holiness, we will become more and more like Christ and we will experience greater joy and peace in our lives.
